Eeeek! Not long now until you can pick up your keys…

What will I need to do before moving into my Unicom student property?

For a smooth move in process please ensure you and ALL your housemates have completed the check list below.  Many of you may be off on your travels for summer – so we suggest you get this sorted before some of your group get holidaying!
If any member of your group has failed to complete the check list it will affect everybody else’s ability to access the house, as per your contract.

WE WOULD LIKE TO MAKE YOU AWARE THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN ANYONE IN THE HOUSE MOVE IN UNTIL THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN ADHERED TO:

MOVE IN CHECK LIST

PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR HOUSEMATES THAT THEY HAVE PAID.

All forms and contracts are located at our Newland Avenue branch, please visit if you are unsure and we will be happy to help (01482 491009).  If, for any reason the above have not been completed by the day the tenancy begins, Unicom will be unable to supply keys to any tenant until all requirements are completed.

How do I move into my student property and collect keys?

You will need to ensure that every member of your house has completed the Move In Check List.  Your contract will start at 3pm on the day of commencement.  Please call our Move In Team to book an appointment to meet them at the property to complete check in and receipt of keys on:  01482 491009.

We recommend that you book your appointment a few days in advance.  We will meet you with keys at the property, and run through a check in process. You will be required to sign a check in paper stating that you are satisfied with the property.  The first tenant to move into the property will sign for accepting the condition of the house for the full period of the tenancy on behalf of everyone.

Please note that if some tenants are moving in months later into the tenancy Unicom cannot take responsibility for any cleanliness/damage past this point. (Occasionally tenancies have started in July, whereby 2/3 tenants move in and have some impressive parties over the summer months! Unfortunately when the rest of the tenants arrive to move in for September we cannot take responsibility for the state of the house)

FURTHER USEFUL INFORMATION

How will I be expected to pay the rent on our student property?
We take payment by direct debit – a form must be filled out and signed. During your signing consultancy session a tailored payment plan for your student property was devised for your group taking your student loans into account. You were required to fill in a direct debit form to cover the year of your tenancy (normally 4 instalments). If you have not handed in you Direct Debit form please do so asap as this may delay your group move in date.

Please deliver Direct Debit forms (no photocopies, or scans, must be original signature) in person or post to our Newland Avenue branch: Accounts, Unicom, 208 Newland Avenue, Hull, HU5 2ND.

If you are abroad or are having problems sending an original signed Direct Debit form please call our office to arrange an alternative method of payment a month before your contract starts.

Your payment plan explained:

During your signing consultancy session a payment plan will be devised to suit your group. Depending upon the start date of your contract there may be an initial payment in summer to cover any months before you receive your student loan in September. We advise that you save some of the funds from your previous April loan in preparation for this summer payment.

Your first instalment will be dated 10 days before your contract is due to start as it takes 10 days for monies to clear, and all funds must have cleared before your contract commences and keys can be handed out.
Thereafter payments will be due in September, January, and April to correlate with your student loan.

If you are experiencing problems adhering to your payment plan for your student property please call our office to discuss.

Love your home….love your university life.  Unicom.
